This is my 1973 SM292 with a 1974 hood.  It has a Y292 motor which puts out about 18hp @ 5500rpm.  This sled is completely stock.  I purchased this sled from a guy in the neighboring town for $100.  I repainted the chassis, found a different hood, because the original one was beyond repair after having a shed door fall on it.  The motor was recently rebuilt before I bought it from top to bottom by Chuck who owns the nearby Yamaha dealer.  Every internal engine part was replaced.  I also had the seat recovered.
I used this sled to race in the inaugrual season of V.O.L.S.,  Vintage One Lunger Series.  With the winter being so poor, they were able to put on 4 races.  I was able to make 2 of them.  I did not make the feature in my first race, but with tweaking, I was able to make the feature the next race.  I consider that pretty good, being that I was giving up anywhere from 6-10hp to the other competitors in my 0-300cc class because I was running the smaller of the 2 Yamaha engines and an HR carburetor.  For the upcoming VOLS season they are creating a new class for snowmobiles running the smaller HR carburetor, so this sled should be pretty competitive in this class.  Stay tuned this winter for upcoming race results and highlights to see how the #15-Shermanator performs!
